Pingtung has a warm climate and plenty of sunshine, making it the perfect place for red beans to grow. With spring-like weather all year round and temperatures staying around 25°C, red beans can grow healthily and safely. From sowing and flowering to podding, farmers take great care of every "red bean baby." They protect them from cold waves and strong winds, waiting patiently for the leaves to turn yellow and the pods to ripen.
During the harvest, while the machines work quickly, local women follow behind. They bend over to pick up every fallen bean, acting like the beans' gentlest "babysitters." After the beans are shelled and packed, they are sent to the factory to begin a strict "sorting journey."
First, a blower removes fallen leaves and debris. Then, the beans are graded by quality. Top-quality beans must pass through gravity separators and stone-removing machines. Finally, computer color sorters and magnetic cleaners perform a final check to ensure there are no metals or impurities. In the end, only the plumpest and brightest red beans are selected.
